3/14/2007 brewday

Filled kegs at work, and now I am home mashing a tripel, and boiling an extract IIPA or Barleywine.

Dry hopped last weeks brew.. will keg/transfer next week. I’d like to bottle condition some of this, but I am not sure I am up for the effort. I’d like to do as much of it at work- using the bottle washer, lots of towels.

I am trying to build these two beers more conceptually. I have a beautiful picture in my head for my tripel, and you could say it’s a beer about a couple of friends.

.5 lbcaravienne

.5lb honey Malt

.5 lb carapils

.5lb biscuit

15 lb two row

9 lb pils extract

2 oz styrian goldings – Bittering 60min
1 oz saaz
.5 styrian goldings – Flame out
2 saaz

The other, is a big, bold and brash hoppy, and bitter beer.

‘target gravity is 1.090- and most of my beers start at 1.06 or so.

target IBUs is also about 90. making it a 1:1 ratio of gravity units to Bitterness units. This might be a stupid beer to be making, but it might be perfect for winter. I am curious. the hops will be Gelena and Cluster.

about 30 lb Pils extract

1 oz cluster and gelena each – 50min

1 oz cluster and gelena each – 10 min

1.096 – 9 gallons.
